Martijn Meerdink scored the only goal after 56 minutes to secure a fourth victory of the season for Ron Jans' men and stretch their unbeaten run in the league to four matches.

Goals were few and far between in Sunday's other fixtures too, with NAC Breda slipping down to sixth following a goalless stalemate at Willem II.

Heerenveen were 9-0 winners in their last Eredivisie outing against Heracles Almelo, but were unable to reproduce their goalscoring antics and had to settle for a 1-0 result at AZ Alkmaar.

Afonso Alves was again the hero for Heerenveen though, snatching a last-minute goal to follow on from the seven he put past Heracles two weeks ago.

And Roda JC were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Utrecht in a midtable clash. Boldiszar Bodor scored for the hosts after 27 minutes but Hans Somer's 61st-minute strike earned Utrecht a share of the spoils.

On Saturday, Feyenoord had maintained their one-point lead over PSV Eindhoven at the top of the standings after narrowly beating Excelsior.

A 78th-minute goal from Giovanni Van Bronckhorst settled the match in favour of the Rotterdammers, who made it seven wins from eight matches so far this season.

PSV are still breathing down Feyenoord's necks, however, after they claimed a workmanlike 3-1 win over bottom side VVV Venlo.

Otman Bakkal (24) and Danny Koevermans (51) gave PSV a two-goal cushion before Samir El Gaaouiri put Venlo back in the hunt on 61 minutes.

However, a second from Koevermans 13 minutes from time sealed the win that sees PSV pull clear of third-placed Ajax, who could only manage a goalless draw with NEC Nijmegen.

Heracles secured only their fifth point of the season after a 2-2 draw at Vitesse Arnhem.

The visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute through Everton before Vitesse hit back with two goals in two minutes from Anders Due (56) and Civard Sprockel (58).

That looked to be enough for the hosts to take the points, but two minutes from time Rob Maas fired home from the penalty spot to snatch a point for Heracles.

The weekend's action began on Friday when surprise package De Graafschap continued their impressive start to the season with a 4-0 hammering of Sparta Rotterdam.

Lasse Schon opened the scoring and the floodgates in the 67th minute, with goals from Berry Powel (78), Leon Hese (83) and Donny De Groot (87) completing the rout.
