High-flying Vitesse Arnhem saw their six-game unbeaten run ended by a Donny Gorter penalty at NAC Breda tonight.
Gorter converted his spot-kick in first-half injury time after Marcus Pedersen felled Anthony Lurling in the area.
There was a hint of controversy surrounding NAC's penalty after referee Pieter Vink had initially indicated there would be no injury time.
However, Vink decided to let time run on after Vitesse duo Nicky Hofs and Pedersen earned his ire and were shown yellow cards.
Heerenveen also enjoyed an away win, beating Roda JC 2-1 to leave the home side just outside the relegation zone.
The visitors took the lead with two goals in quick succession either side of half-time through Oussama Assaidi (42) and Filip Djuricic (49).
Roda hit back six minutes later through Jagos Vukovic but were unable to find an equaliser.
FC Groningen had a late equaliser from Petter Andersson to thank for salvaging a point from their visit to RKC Waalwijk.
RKC had led most of the match after Sander Duits opened the scoring in the 17th minute, but Andersson struck with 17 minutes left to make it 1-1.
In the day's final game, NEC Nijmegen moved away from the relegation zone with a 1-0 win at Feyenoord thanks to Nick Van der Velden's seventh-minute goal.
