Messi played no part in the club's disappointing Primera Liga draw against Osasuna on Sunday after returning from international duty with a tight hamstring, while Marquez also missed that match through suspension.

Young Mexico forward Giovani Dos Santos began on the right in Pamplona and showed glimpses of his enormous potential, but Messi will return to the side in a three-man attack alongside Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry for the game against Lyon.

Barcelona have failed to score in two of their three league games so far this season and coach Frank Rijkaard admits the return of Messi will boost his side's attack for the Group E showdown.

Rijkaard said: "Leo is an important player for us and we are pleased he is ready to play against Lyon. We are a much more creative side when he is with us."

The return of Marquez will also aid an ailing defence which looked considerably shaky against Osasuna.

With captain Carles Puyol sidelined with a long-term injury, veteran Frenchman Lilian Thuram started alongside Argentina defender Gabi Milito at the back on Sunday and the former seems certain to make way for Marquez following an error-strewn display in Pamplona.

Barcelona are still without Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o, who strained a tendon in his right leg in last month's friendly with Internazionale and will be out for at least two more months.

Edmilson is also sidelined for the visit of Lyon.

Fellow Brazilian Ronaldinho, controversially substituted by Rijkaard against Osasuna, hopes his side can get back to winning ways.

Ronaldinho said: "We need to think about the next match. I was not surprised (to be substituted) because there is another game in the middle of the week. Our focus on winning is what is most important to us."

Lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet believes the pressure is off his side following a string of key departures over the summer.

France internationals Florent Malouda, Eric Abidal and Alou Diarra all left the Ligue 1 Champions, along with Portugal midfielder Tiago and coach Gerard Houllier.

New manager Alain Perrin is building a fresh team and Coupet believes the new-look Lyon side can surprise a few people in Europe this year.

Coupet said: "We are less strong than last season, no doubt. The group is less experienced and we have to rebuild.

"We really don't have anything to lose, as people think we will lose in the first round of the Champions League. So who knows? We might be a surprise in the group stages."

Lyon have won their last four games and thrashed Metz 5-1 on Saturday to move up to second place in Ligue 1.

Alain Perrin now has a fully-fit squad for tonight's game after Brazilian defender Cleber Anderson returned to action at the weekend.
