When the sides clashed in the 2004/05 campaign at the Stadio Olimpico, Swedish referee Anders Frisk was hit by a coin thrown from the stands as he walked off at half-time.

Dynamo, who were leading 1-0 at the time, were awarded a 3-0 victory by UEFA while the Giallorossi were banned from having spectators at two of their subsequent Champions League games.

Roma midfielder Alessandro Mancini is determined to make up for that episode and help get Luciano Spalletti's side off to a winning start in Group F.

Mancini said: "We have the possibility of cancelling that ugly episode which saw Frisk hit by a coin.

"We have big ambitions in the Champions League this year and I think we can go very far in this competition.

"However, we must get off to a good start."

The Giallorossi are upbeat about their chances having made a strong start to the new season.

The capital club won the Italian Super Cup last month and are the only team in Serie A to have collected three straight wins in the new season.

Sunday's 2-0 win at Reggina allowed Roma to take sole possession of top spot in Serie A with a two-point advantage over Internazionale.

The Giallorossi meet Juventus at the weekend but Spalletti has vowed to select his strongest possible side for the midweek encounter.

He welcomes back defender Juan, who missed the Reggina encounter due to a shoulder injury.

Juan will replace Philippe Mexes, who serves a one-match ban.

Goalkeeper Alexander Doni faces a late fitness test after suffering a concussion against Reggina. Should he not make it then Gianluca Curci will deputise.

Dynamo will be keen to show an improvement on their recent form in Europe's premier club competition, having failed to reach the last 16 since 1999-2000.

Last season was a particularly poor campaign for the Kiev club who only managed two points in the group phase in a campaign that started with a defeat at the hands of Steaua Bucharest.

At least Kiev claimed the domestic title back from Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, the visitors will be buoyed by Roma's recent record against Ukrainian opposition which is not impressive with three defeats in their last four matches against teams from the former Soviet Republic.

The game will also be something of a reunion of players who played in the 2006 World Cup quarter-final match won 3-0 by Italy.

Simone Perrotta and Francesco Totti played in that game for Italy while Dynamo's Olexandr Shovkovskiy, Andriy Nesmachniy, Oleh Gusev, Vladyslav Vaschuk and Artem Milevskiy featured for Ukraine.
