He concedes success or failure rests on Portsmouth's visit to Goodison Park tomorrow - Everton's last home game of the campaign - as what follows is the daunting prospect of a final-day trip to Chelsea.

Everton have not been out of the top seven since the end of February and to fail now would be a bitter blow for Moyes.

"We know will be judged only by our finish. All the other stuff has passed now and what we do tomorrow and next Sunday will decide where we finish," he said.

"I think the players have been exceptional from the start, now we need to see if we can finish it off."

If Everton beat Pompey, it means Harry Redknapp's side cannot overtake them in the battle for a UEFA Cup spot, but with Spurs not playing until Monday at Charlton, the situation for the fifth, sixth and seventh spots in the Premier League still unclear.

"We all know the importance of the game. It is a really crucial match for us because it will help us get into a European place and we have to try to make that happen," added Moyes, who insists being in sixth place with two games left was a very favourable situation to be in.

"It's exactly what we would want. We are in a good position and we now need to try to capitalise on that - in our home game especially."

Moyes, though, with UEFA Cup football so close, is already looking towards increasing the depth of his squad for next season.

"I do not think we would have been ready for European football this season with the size of our squad, and that will need addressing," he said.

Everton midfielder Manuel Fernandes spent the first half of the season on loan at Pompey before returning to Benfica, who allowed the player to sign a short-term deal to play for the Toffees.

He said: "They give everything in every game they play so I know it is going to be difficult to play against them.

"Kanu is a great player, one of the best I have played alongside. His quality is impressive. I have only played against him in training but I know from that he is a difficult player to play against.

"He is a player that makes the team play, and he has tremendous quality. I didn't know about Matty Taylor before I came to England but he has scored a lot of goals and they have been impressive."

Everton are likely to make just one change from the side that lost 4-2 to Manchester United last weekend.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard will return, having be ineligible against his former club, replacing Scotland Under-21 international Iain Turner.

Striker Andrew Johnson (ankle) is not expected to be involved, although he will have a fitness test tomorrow, while Victor Anichebe has trained this week and is close to a return after an ankle problem.
