Cahill, who is 32 in December, penned a four-year deal with the Toffees in May last year.

And the Australian told The Daily Post he's passionate about the club - who he's been with since 2004 - and added he doesn't want to leave early.

“I wouldn’t have signed for this club if it wasn’t for the chairman and the manager, and that’s half the reason why I stayed,” Cahill said.

“We do see what’s going on, and we do share the same passion as the fans. I’ve been here seven years and I was lucky to grow up with (Duncan) Ferguson, Stubbsy (Alan Stubbs), (Lee) Carsley, (Kevin) Kilbane and (Gary) Naysmith.

“Every player that has left has always said ‘I wish I didn’t go as early as I did’.”

By Cahill's admission Everton haven't had a great season this term but are currently seventh in the English Premier League.

The Australian added he was amazed by Everton's ability to consistently finish in the league's top-half given its relative lack of resources in comparison to other top flight clubs.

“We’re two points behind Liverpool – they’ve just spent £75m, excluding wages, just in this January window,” he said.

“So when I look at it now, yes this season has been disappointing and hard to take, but the evaluation of our situation is that every year we’ve got something out of what we have.”

Cahill continued: “You look at young players that I watch everyday like Ross Barkley, Jose Baxter, Jack Rodwell, and Seamus Coleman who we spent £50,000 on.”

As for his current injury woes, Cahill was hopeful of returning soon with a foot injury keeping him on the sidelines for the past few matches.

“The fitness is actually going quite well,” Cahill said. “I’ve had a foot problem since after the Asia Cup, I played on with it for a bit.

“But hopefully I’ll be back in the next couple of weeks with Mikel and a couple of the other lads to help fly the flag again.”

The Toffees face Manchester United on Saturday in the Premier League and Everton boss David Moyes said Cahill was a chance to play.

“There’s an outside chance that Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill could be involved,” Moyes told evertonfc.com.

“Although it is not just this game, we would like to get them back for all the games, to have them back for Wigan, West Brom, Man City and Chelsea would be great.”
