FORMER Olyroo Gareth Edds played his part in bringing West Ham new boy Freddie Ljunberg down to earth as League Two MK Dons earned a 3-2 win over their Premiership visitors.
New Dons’ boss Paul Ince saw his team continue its impressive pre-season preparations with Alan Curbishley’s outfit put to the sword.
Despite missing Socceroo Lucas Neill, the Hammers side was still packed with star names including debutant Ljunberg, former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy and defender Matthew Upson.
Ince, who recently took charge at the League Two club following his switch from Macclesfield Town, saw Sydney-born Edds and company take the lead through Mark Wright, only for the visitors to draw level through Hogan Ephraim.
When Upson pounced to make it 2-1 to the Premiership side – his first goal for the Hammers - it looked as though the gulf in divisions would really tell.
However, the Dons’, who narrowly missed promotion to League One last season (beaten in the play-offs by Shrewsbury Town) battled back to level matters. Keith Andrews rammed a hotly-disputed penalty past Richard Wright and victory was secured when former Brighton and Swansea striker Leon Knight claimed the winner.
The match attracted just short of 10,000 spectators as the Dons get used to life in their new stadium.
