EXCLUSIVE: Former Wellington and Adelaide United defender Kristian Rees is in China hoping to tie up a deal with a Chinese Super League club.
The big 27-year-old defender rejected Phoenix's offer after last season's A-League and elected to find a new club with his agent Richie Hinton from Elite Sports Properties.
The pair have been in China these last few days.
Rees departed Adelaide United after the purge following John Kosmina's sacking following the Reds' 2007 Grand Final loss to Melbourne Victory.
After playing for powerhouse VPL side Whittlesea, Rees moved on a short-term deal to the New Zealand capital.
Taking Rees' place at the back of Ricki Herbert's side for next season will be new signings Socceroo Jon McKain and Jets star Andrew Durante.
