Mullen fired a fantastic right-footed volley past goalkeeper Zhang Lu in the 42nd minute of Dalian Aerbin’s 5-3 loss to Liaoning Whowin.

It was, however, the highlight of an otherwise disappointing match for the Aussie defender. He struggled to deal with the pace of the Liaoning attackers and his team was frequently exposed on the counter-attack.

Aerbin are now in 13th position on the CSL table, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

In the J.League, Sooceroo defender Jade North put in full shift, but Josh Kennedy was absent as Consadole Sapporo upset Nagoya Grampus 2-1.

Nagoya got their goal in the 58th minute when North stumbled while attempting to clear a cross, allowing Marcus Tulio Tanaka to prod the ball past the hapless goalkeeper.

Massimo Luongo played a full match and again impressed, but he wasn’t able to help Ipswich Town from going down 2-0 to Luton.

In more positive news for the young Aussies abroad, Mustafa Amini played the second half of Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win against Legia Warsaw and Aryn Williams was a 65 minute substitute during Burnley’s 3-0 win over Alfreton.

Ryan McGowan played a full match while Dylan McGowan came on in the 76th minute as Hearts defeated Rotherham 1-0.

Ryan was named Man of the Match and set up the winning goal when he turned his marker and delivered a perfect cross that was fired home by John Sutton.

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match while Bailey Wright came on in the 73rd minute as Preston North End defeated AEK Athens 1-0, but Shane Lowry missed Millwall’s 2-0 loss to Crawley Town because of a groin injury.

Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer put in a full shift as Fulham defeated Wycombe Wanderers 3-0, while Mile Jedinak played the second half of Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over Aldershot.
