Newcastle United's Aussie James Troisi has never played a senior game in his hometown Adelaide. But this Wednesday night, the 18-year-old on the fringe of the Premierships at St James' Park gets his opportunity with the Olyroos' crucial Olympics qualifier against Iran.

“It's an important game so it's important to relax and work together to win,” Troisi tells au.fourfourtwo.com from the team's Adelaide base ahead of the match at Hindmarsh.

“Yes, it's the first time I've played a big match in my hometown. Family and friends will be coming to watch.

“I don't know a lot about them as I didn't play against Iran in Tehran. But technically I believe they're very good,” says attacking midfielder Troisi, who has made a stunning impression at the Magpies, culminating in making the bench this season and training with the first team.

He adds that he is unsure of his role on Wednesday night, but it's understood he'll play a role in a match the Aussies are desperate to win after a loss in Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago.

“It was a good atmosphere [in Saudi Arabia]. They were technically good but we didn't keep the ball.”

Troisi acknowledges the difficulty of moving into a team he's had minimal time with, “but we had a two week camp in Abu Dhabi before the Saudi game. It got me used to the boys and we've been in camp here in Adelaide.”

The young Aussie is, as he explains, an attacking midfielder who “runs at players. I've got pace and I'm two-footed. Technically good. Come and watch me on Wednesday night.”
