Mark Viduka is the latest name reportedly set to miss the highly-anticipated June 2 friendly. It is believed the in-form Middlesbrough star will be allowed to rest ahead of the July’s Asian Cup but other fringe Socceroos are keen to use the match as a last-chance bid to make the final squad.

John Aloisi - who was one of the most memorable stars from Australia’s last encounter against La Celeste - also recently conceded to au.fourfourtwo.com that it is unlikely he will return for the match, expressing disappointment.

“I’d like to but I don’t know if I’ll be able to because our season doesn’t finish until mid June so I’ll have to see how it stands with the club and speak to Graham Arnold, but I’d love to play against Uruguay,” he said.

“I’ve got a couple of friends that play for them [Uruguay] also and it’s always a good match to play in. It’s a bit rough and there’s always a lot of tension!”

A current target for Queensland Roar, Aloisi is likely to be facing a relegation battle for Alaves. The former La Liga side has had a disappointing season and may slip into Spain’s third division with matches until June 10. Alaves' June 3 match will be against top side Valladolid. Currently, Alaves sit fourth from the bottom of the Segunda Liga.

Aloisi also warned that Uruguay will be out to defeat Australia, to exact revenge after being knocked out in the 2005 World Cup qualifier.

“They were really upset about what happened against us. Australia to them, to South Americans… is just not a big footballing nation and we showed them what we were capable of doing. I don’t think they were embarrassed but I think they felt they let their country down by losing to us so they’ll want to show their country that they can beat us now and get one back,” he said.

Australia’s Serie A stars in Mark Bresciano and Vinnie Grella both have matches on May 27. In particular, Grella’s Parma will play his former club Empoli in what will almost certainly be a crunch match. Parma too, risk being relegated to Serie B while Empoli will be looking to secure a birth in the UEFA Cup. Grella has recently declared his commitment to be at the match however.

Former Everton player Eddy Bosnar will be one player who may earn himself a surprise call-up after a strong season at Dutch side Heracles Almelo. The 27-year-old defender has represented Australia at youth level but had an acrimonious relationship with former Socceroos boss Frank Farina. Bosnar felt he had been shunned by Farina and subsequently announced he would not play for Australia under Farina.

If he remains injury-free, Harry Kewell is expected to return for the match which he will use as an opportunity to regain match fitness.

A 20-man Uruguay squad list is expected next week.
