FRANKFURT AM MAIN, February 27 (Bundesliga) - Schalke will be without influential midfielder Lincoln for five games after he was suspended by the German Football Association (DFB).
The Brazilian was sent off at the end of Schalke's 1-0 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday after lashing out at opponent Bernd Schneider.
A red card for violent conduct usually carries a suspension of two to three matches, but the DFB took into account Lincoln's history of indiscipline before handing down an exemplary five-game ban.
Prior to this season, the 28-year-old was banned for four weeks by the DFB after spitting at Stuttgart's Thomas Hitzlsperger in a League Cup encounter.
Schalke will not appeal the DFB's verdict, meaning Lincoln will now miss the club's upcoming fixtures against Hamburg, Stuttgart and Bayern Munich.
