The F3 Derby in the Hunter saw the soaring Jets defeat the Mariners 2-0 in A-League Round 15. It was a great spectacle, with end-to-end entertainment as both sides attacked relentlessly.
As the rain stormed in, it poured for the visitors as Wout Brama and Connor Pain suffered hamstring injuries, compounded by a red card to Josh Rose.
Dimitri Petratos connected after some lovely build-up play by Daniel Georgievski and Steven Ugarkovic, with new signing Patricio Rodriguez making the perfect debut - sealing the three points with aplomb.
Central Coast’s inability to finish let them down in the end.
NEWCASTLE JETS
Glen Moss (GK) - 8.5
Made some great saves on Appiah and Powell, one especially that was late in the match. Kept his side in it until the end.
Daniel Georgievski - 6
Poor delivery into the penalty area, couldn’t find the right final ball. Fantastic work on the edge of the box to spark the build-up for the goal.
Nigel Boogaard - 7
Great recovery and got goal-side to deny a potential goal from Hoole’s cross.
Nikolai Topor-Stanley - 6
Made some vital clearances but misjudged Appiah several times, and it was lucky that he was unable to capitalise.
Ivan Vujica - 7
Great crosses and defensive work. Energetic moving forward and a superb one-two with Champness on the left touchline in an attacking move.
Jason Hoffman - 6
Tried to narrow his strikes but was too acute. Was fairly quiet throughout the match.
Steven Ugarkovic - 8
Made crucial clearances and performed a beautiful touch for Petratos to finish.
Wayne Brown - 5.5
Slid in determinedly to clear Pain’s dangerous passes for Hoole, but offered little else.

Dimitri Petratos - 7.5
Excellent passing and link-up with Ugarkovic in the second period. Lightning finish into the back of the net for the opener in the 83rd minute.
Andrew Nabbout - 6
Effort to Kennedy was saved comfortably. Wasn’t at his usual best.
Joey Champness - 7
Exciting instinct to attack, great little touches. Looked full of confidence but was unable to make a huge impact.
Subs
Patricio Rodriguez - 8
The Argentine performed beautifully on the ball. Made his announcement perfectly with an expert tackle and outstanding finish.
John Koutroumbis – N/A
Wasn’t on long enough for a fair rating.
CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
Ben Kennedy (GK) - 7
Made some solid saves and the two goals were quite unstoppable.
Jake McGing – 7.5
Solid defence at right back, halting Champness’ charges. Brilliant attacking moves as well.
Alan Baro – 6.5
Blocked and stood tall during Jets’ early attacking bursts. Crucial interception on an Ugarkovic pass.
Antony Golec – 6.5
On-top defensively in the first-half, hindered Newcastle countless times, but poor defending on the first goal.
Josh Rose - 4
Decent outing but was plagued by the poor decision making that resulted in his send-off.

Tom Hiariej – 7.5
Immaculate touch and passing, but poor shooting. Solid interceptions and work in midfield.
Wout Brama - 7
Bright in midfield with his fellow Dutchman and showed good decision making in his passes. Played well but was unfortunately subbed-off in the first-half due to a hamstring issue.
Kwabena Appiah - 6.5
Bright early, but missed two golden chances in the first half due to pressure and lack of technique. Swift cut in for Powell’s chance in the second-half, and over-hit a cross for Powell in the 50th minute.
Andrew Hoole – 5.5
Had a decent match as he played forward, but his teammates lacked the crucial execution. Wasn’t a game-changer.
Connor Pain - 7.5
Great crosses in for Powell and was lively down the wing. Looked determined as ever before going down with yet another hamstring injury for the Mariners.

Blake Powell – 6.5
Started well, but failed to seal it with a chance to break the deadlock in the 11th minute, but showed clever passing to put Appiah through on goal.
Looked determined, but lacked the final product.
Subs
Jacob Melling - 5
Poor pass at the back was pounced on by Rodriguez and leaded to the second goal.
Lachlan Wales - 7.5
Did well to keep possession and lay-off passes. Persevered and was strikingly good off of the bench
Storm Roux – N/A
Didn’t do enough to warrant a fair rating.
