A report this evening emerged suggesting the FA had moved to team up Tottenham manager Redknapp with former England captain Beckham to lead the national side when Fabio Capello steps down after Euro 2012.

But an FA spokesman this evening said: "There are no such talks and we have not discussed any potential succession plan with anyone at this point."

The report indicated FA chiefs had held "informal discussions" with 63-year-old Redknapp over becoming England boss, with 35-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham his assistant, with the long-term plan for the former Manchester United star to take on the top job.
