After helping Forest record a 3-2 victory in the Coca-Cola Championship clash, striker Nathan Tyson picked up a corner flag and waved it in celebration in front of the Derby fans in the Bridgford End.

Rams players Dean Leacock and Gary Teale confronted Tyson, prompting the majority of the other players to rush over and get involved as stewards fought to keep supporters off the pitch.

An FA spokesman told Press Association Sport: "The FA can confirm that we will be investigating the incidents at Nottingham Forest as a matter of urgency."

Forest went 3-0 up through Radoslaw Majewski, Dexter Blackstock and Tyson before Derby fought back in the second half.

A Wes Morgan own goal and a Jake Livermore effort brought them back into the match, but the hosts held on to claim their first success over their local rivals since March 2003.

Forest boss Billy Davies said: "I didn't see the incident but if that's what Nathan has done then I will look at the video.

"I remember the last time Derby were here and Robbie Savage was waving a Derby scarf around.

"There was very little made of that and we hope it will be the same for this."

Derby manager Nigel Clough also missed the incident involving Tyson.

He said: "I was in the dressing room, which I personally think all managers and benches should be at the final whistle."

Barnsley parted company with manager Simon Davey by mutual consent hours after their 3-1 home defeat to Reading.

Barnsley have had a torrid start to the season and currently sit bottom of the table, having picked up just one point from their opening five games.

A club statement read: "It is with regret that Barnsley Football Club and first team manager Simon Davey have mutually agreed to part company.

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks for all the hard work Simon has put in during his two-and-a-half-year tenure as manager and wish him every success in the future."

The Tykes took the lead in the 11th minute against Reading when new signing Andy Gray scored his first goal for the club.

Alex Pearce levelled for Reading and Noel Hunt put the visitors ahead with a penalty before adding a third a minute later.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones accused elements of his team of complacency after watching the Bluebirds surrender their unbeaten record and top spot with a 2-0 defeat at Doncaster.

Two strikes in the first 20 minutes from James Coppinger and James Hayter upset the odds and handed Jones his first defeat in seven competitive fixtures this season.

"The first 20 minutes killed us," he said. "Do I feel happy? No I don't.

"I don't think we turned up in the first 20 minutes and you can't afford to do that to any team at this level.

"I think a couple of the lads might have taken their foot off the gas. They took the game to us and a few of my players weren't up for that today. You have to start at full pelt and a few of my players didn't and a few never got going."

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "We performed and created chances. In this division if you go two up you can close the game out and I thought we did that well."

West Brom moved a point above Cardiff after being held to a 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

Roman Bednar twice put Albion in front, but Ched Evans and then David Cotterill's controversial late penalty rescued a point for the Blades.

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo refused to be drawn on the penalty incident.

He said: "I can't comment too much, otherwise I'll get banned, but it's a very hostile place and the supporters make it difficult for referees."

Sheffield United assistant manager Sam Ellis insisted there was no doubt about the award of the penalty.

He said: "There is no controversy as far as we are concerned. I don't know if it was one player or two who tripped Darius Henderson up."

Elsewhere, Blackpool beat Coventry 3-0, Sheffield Wednesday won 3-1 at Plymouth and Scunthorpe went down 1-0 at home to QPR.

Nicky Maynard scored twice, including an injury-time winner, as Bristol City beat Middlesbrough 2-1, while an injury-time equaliser from Alan Tate earned Swansea a 1-1 draw with Watford.

Ipswich picked up their second point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw against 10-man Preston.
