The Arsenal captain has spoken out over Adebayor's dangerous play in last weekend's Barclays Premier League match between the latter's new club Manchester City and his old one at Eastlands last Saturday.

"I think this is a red card here," said Fabregas, reportedly gesturing to his leg and claiming the injury was suffered in an Adebayor challenge studied by the Football Association yesterday before they banned the City striker for three matches for stamping on Robin van Persie's head in the same match.

"I was lucky my foot was in the air when it happened," Fabregas added.

"All I tried to do when he [Adebayor] was at Arsenal was to create opportunities for him to score - so I think I didn't do too bad for him."

Fabregas and his fellow Gunner Emmanuel Eboue were both shocked by Adebayor's behaviour last weekend.

"I have no idea why he acted like this," said Eboue.

"We always respected him.

"He didn't do well because you have a lot of young people who watch the game and they see that, and it's no good for football.

"But I am very, very happy because the FA have given him a three-game ban (for the Van Persie stamp).

"What he did was no good for football. I am very disappointed about it, very disappointed."

Adebayor has given his version of events to The Sun.

"I could not understand some of the Arsenal players being disrespectful towards me," he said.

"I was being abused by people who six months ago were singing my name. The abuse was for no reason.

"It wasn't my fault I left - it was (manager) Arsene (Wenger) who wanted to accept the offer for me."

City face a striker crisis for Sunday's derby against Manchester United after the FA yesterday confirmed Adebayor's ban.

The Togo international admitted the charge of violent conduct brought after he stamped on Van Persie's head.

He is therefore ruled out of City's match at Old Trafford and will also miss home fixtures in the Carling Cup game with Fulham and West Ham in the Premier League.

The suspension leaves manager Mark Hughes likely to be without four strikers against United - because Roque Santa Cruz, Robinho and Carlos Tevez are all struggling with injuries.

City may have to rely on Craig Bellamy and Benjani Mwaruwari up front.

Adebayor could face an even lengthier ban is he is found guilty of a separate charge of improper conduct, brought after he ran the length of the pitch to taunt Gunners fans with a goal celebration.

The FA said in a statement: ``A regulatory commission today considered the charge of violent conduct issued against Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor under the fast-track disciplinary procedure following an incident with Robin van Persie during their fixture against Arsenal on September 12.

"Taking into consideration Mr Adebayor's acceptance of the charge of violent conduct, the regulatory commission have ordered that he serve a three-match suspension from all football, commencing Thursday September 17.

"A separate charge of improper conduct will be considered at a later date."

City may contest the improper conduct charge - and have until September 30 to respond to that allegation.
