Renaud's goal – a 30-yard, dipping screamer, zoomed into the Galaxy net. “I knew as soon as I hit it it was going in,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com after the game.

“It was one of the best of my career.”

Renaud could also be seen chatting with Beckham as the two teams made their way for the second half. The FC defender revealed the conversation: “He is so approachable. I just said can you stop sending these dangerous balls in from the right, it's killing me! And he said I'll see what I can do.”

So, was this the swansong of this former Stallion who was until recently working for Sydney FC as its development officer while playing premier league football?

“It could be. You can never rule things out,” Renaud said, “but if this was my swansong, and we have to look at the future, then to do it this way, in front of my family watching and David Beckham, then it's a pretty good way of going out.”

Renaud added that he may look at work as an assistant coach in the NSW premier league this winter.

“Sydney is moving forward and Kossie [John Kosmina] wants to sign younger players to get us back to where we were. If that is the way, then so be it. It's the best thing for the club and team and I'm just happy to have played my part.”
