EXCLUSIVE: Galatasaray fans have launched a campaign to keep Harry Kewell at the Turkish giants as fears grow for his future over an influx of foreign signings.
Kewell is currently injured and likely to be sidelined with his groin problem for at least five weeks.
The Turkish club are set to continue their transfer spree this month with with a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur's Giovanni Dos Santos, coverting into a sale at the end of the season.
The move would see the club's eight-player foreign quota reached, with both Lucas Neill and Jo also recently arriving, and any further additions would require a current overseas player to be ejected.
Gala chairman Adnan Polat added fuel to the fire yesterday when he told the club website of his concerns about the timing of Kewell's injury and his return to fitness.
Local Turkish press have suggested Kewell could be forced out the club this week before the end of the transfer window instead of waiting until the end of the season when his contract ends.
But Gala fans are adamant that Kewell, yet to decide on a new deal with the club, should be retained.
Supporters have made it clear they would rather see another player jettisoned with Kewell hailed as the biggest foreign hit at the club since Romania's Gheorge Hagi.
Gala fans recently displayed a huge 'Stay With Us Harry' banner at a home game and a website, staywithusharry.com, has been set up to focus support.
Supporters have pledged their support for Kewell and hailed his impact since joining the club from Liverpool.
The Hurriyet Daily News in Turkey has carried a number of comments from Galatasaray supporters who have logged on to the website to back the Aussie known by his Turkish fans as Daddy Cool and the WIzard Of Oz.
"He is the best foreigner to play for Galatasaray since Hagi," wrote one supporter at staywithusharry.com. "He is like a natural-born Galatasaray player, he suits the team very well."
Kewell has found himself the target of transfer speculation in recent weeks with everyone from Manchester United to Olympic Marseille linked with the Socceroo.
Sources close to Kewell have told au.fourfourtwo.com that they have no knowledge of any looming exit for the 31-year-old and that the focus is firmly on getting fit and returning to action.
They added: "Harry will be back playing in about five weeks according to the doctor.
"What people may be doing is making their own conclusions because Harry has not extended his contract."
