AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroo Adam Federici was in goals as Reading fell just short of promotion after losing Monday's Premier League play-off 4-2 to Swansea City.
Scott Sinclair was the hero for the Swans with a hat-trick as they celebrated becoming the first Welsh club to clinch promotion to England's Premier League.
Federici was partly at fault for Sinclair's second goal, which made it 2-0 after 22 minutes, when he could only get a weak hand to Stephen Dobbie's cross, allowing the ball to fall to Sinclair who lashed it in.
The Royals trailed 3-0 at half-time but rallied to bring it back to 3-2 in the second stanza after a Joe Allen own goal and Matthew Mills' strike.
However, Sinclair sealed the victory late on much to the Welsh club's supporters delight.
After the game, Royals boss Brian McDermott said: "We'll be stronger for this next season, that's the most important thing. Sometimes you have to feel the pain and then move on."
Elsewhere on Monday, Joel Griffiths scored as Beijing Guoan defeated Shenzhen Ruby 4-0 in China's Super League.
Griffiths tapped in the fourth goal from close-range on 63 minutes, after Xu Liang's cut-back. The Aussie, who started the game, was replaced on 71 minutes.
In Ireland's Premier Division, Chris O'Connor made a number of good saves as Bohemians lost 1-0 at Shamrock Rovers.
