Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici made his competitive debut for Stoke City as they knocked Aaron Mooy's Huddersfield Town out of the League Cup with a 2-0 win overnight.
Federici has been back-up to Jack Butland since his off-season move from Bournemouth to Stoke but was handed his maiden start and kept a clean sheet.
The Stoke City website wrote: "Adam Federici, making his first competitive start for the Club, was a relative bystander, but showed good hands to deny Laurent Depoitre from distance on two occasions."
Mooy was introduced as a 69th minute substitute as Town got on top late, with the Socceroo setting up a chance for Isaac Mbenza which Federici saved.
Jackson Irvine missed a second straight game due to a thigh complaint as Hull City crashed out with a 4-0 home loss to Derby County.
Mat Ryan was rested as Brighton & Hove Albion crashed out of the cup with a 1-0 home loss to rivals Southampton.
Massimo Luongo was rotated out of the QPR side which won 3-1 over Bristol Rovers, while Mile Jedinak was an unused sub in Aston Villa’s 1-0 loss to Burton Albion.
James Oates put in a full shift for Exeter City in a 2-0 loss at Fulham, while Bradden Inman played an hour in Rochdale’s 2-1 loss at Middlesbrough.
