International fixtures are Coppell's pet hate at the moment after Nicky Shorey returned injured from England duty and Andre Bikey went all the way to Japan to appear for Cameroon in a friendly.

A total of 10 Royals were in action at various points of the compass last week and Coppell was convinced the travelling was a major factor behind the 3-0 defeat which followed at Bolton.

Federici, who is set to start at Swansea in the Carling Cup tonight, knows Australia have a glamour friendly with Argentina lined up for September 11 in Melbourne.

But he promised: "I was on the bench for a friendly with Uruguay at the end of last season and would love to be given the chance to play for my country but I won't be going to this one.

"Australia also play friendlies in Europe so those are the ones I would be able to be involved in.

"Time is on my side - I'm only 22 and Mark Schwarzer is 35 so I have just got to be patient.

"I feel I am way ahead of myself anyway, especially when you consider I didn't even have a club two years ago.

"And I can understand the manager's point of view with people coming back injured or tired out. I'm happy to be where I am right now."

Coppell is set to make wholesale changes tonight because that is what he does for every cup match, regardless of the opposition.

Winger Bobby Convey is expected to make his first start since undergoing a knee operation in March and strikers Dave Kitson and Leroy Lita, who have played just a handful of minutes each this season because of suspension and injury respectively, will be intent on making up for lost time at the Swans' expense.

Fringe players John Halls and Scott Golbourne, who both featured at the Reebok Stadium, will be aiming to press their claims for more regular action and teenager Alex Pearce is expected to be on the bench.

The Royals have high hopes for the 18-year-old Scotland youth international defender, who impressed in a loan spell at Northampton last season.

Federici said: "I have played with him many times and he is going to be a great player. If he is given the chance he will go out there and do as good a job as anybody."

Simon Cox, who can play up front or on the right, is also in the squad, with the 20-year-old having impressed in South Korea in pre-season.

Federici said: "He has been knocking on the door for a while."
