Bournemouth's Socceroo Adam Federici is unlikely to play again this year following an operation on his injured right knee.
Federici, who missed several months earlier this year, re-injured his knee during international duty with Australia a fortnight ago.
The goalkeeper underwent surgery on the damaged cartilage last week, with Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe confirming the extent of the injury.
"The surgery was successful," Howe told the Daily Echo.
"They found and identified the problem so we expect him to be out for a similar time frame to last season.
"We're looking at around 12 weeks.
"It is the same as previously, he has a meniscus problem in his knee."
The injury has forced Federici's loan spell with Nottingham Forest to be rescinded.
