EURO WRAP: Manchester United made a stuttering start to their Champions League campaign as they were held to a scoreless draw at home by a determined Rangers outfit.
Summer signing Javier Hernandez almost put United ahead in the 12th minute but the Mexican's brilliant header looped narrowly wide.
It was a rare sight of goal for the Reds as Rangers' five-man defence held firm throughout.
Wayne Rooney, one of 10 changes to the side that drew 3-3 with Everton on Saturday, suffered a scare shortly before the break when his leg stuck in the turf and he appeared to injure the left knee which troubled him during last season.
But after hobbling around deep in his own half, the England striker sprang into life with a crunching tackle on Steven Naismith.
United tried to crank up the pressure in the second half with Hernandez and Rooney trying to break through the Scottish wall of blue but their momentum was broken up by a lengthy stoppage that saw Reds winger Antonio Valencia stretchered off.
It wasn't until the 80th minute that United tested McGregor's goal once more when Gibson hit a 20-yard strike that thundered inches over the bar.
Rangers almost undid their hard work deep in injury time but Broadfoot managed to scramble Majid Bougherra's panicked header away from danger.
United mounted a late rally in six minutes of added time, but Rangers managed to hold on for a deserved point.
Tottenham relinquished a two-goal lead to end up sharing the spoils with a gritty Werder Bremen in their Group A encounter.
Spurs made a blistering start to the contest at the Wederstadion in Bremen to lead 2-0 after just 18 minutes, but some lapses in concentration on either side of half time cost the Premier League side a dream start on their Champions League debut.
The visitors took the lead after 12 minutes when Welshman Gareth Bale's low cross was deflected into the net by unlucky Bremen defender Petri Pasanen.
The North-Londoners doubled their lead six minutes later, new signing Rafael van der Vaart making an instant impact with a cross that set up Peter Crouch for a trademark headed goal.
Spurs controlled the tempo for much of the half, with Bale a constant menace for the Bremen defence with tantalising runs down the left hand side.
But the hosts pegged their way back into the contest with a goal just before half-time, Brazilian midfielder Wesley crossing to Hugo Almeida who rose over a stale Spurs' defence to head past Carlo Cudicini on 43 minutes.
Bremen carried their momentum into the second half, drawing the scores level when winger Marko Marin ran to the edge of the area and curled a shot past Cudicini, who could rightly feel aggrieved by a lack of defensive pressure from his team-mates.
Crouch had a glorious chance to score a winner for Spurs late in the match when he found himself clean through on goal, but his shot slipped just wide, ensuring a share of the points on the night.
