United eventually came out on top of the clash on December 26, Javier Hernandez's last-minute winner handing them a 4-3 victory.

The visitors' second goal, which made the scores 2-1, saw Jonny Evans put the ball in his own net, however Ferguson was not happy that referee Mike Dean overruled his linesman's offside call and allowed the goal to stand.

Dean's opted not to send Ferguson to the stands despite protesting furiously at the referee and his assistants.

That decision led Pardew to criticise the official, calling on the Football Association to ban the United manager from the touchline.

Ferguson has now hit back, and with some force, accusing his opposite number of being among the worst offenders for "haranguing" officials, and dragging up an incident in a match between Newcastle and Tottenham when Pardew pushed an assistant referee.

"(Pardew) shoves a ref then makes a joke of it, then he's got the cheek to criticise me," Ferguson said. "It's unbelievable.

"He is the worst for haranguing referees. His whole staff, every game. He was at it the whole game on Wednesday."

Ferguson said the incident on Wednesday has been blown out of proportion due to the profile of Manchester United, while also delivering a barb at Newcastle's stature.

"It is unfortunate but I am the manager of the most famous club in the world," he said.

"Not Newcastle, a wee club in the north east.

"I was demonstrative. I am always demonstrative. Everyone knows that. I am an emotional guy. But I was not abusive. I shouted Mike over.

"We walked towards each other. I was only on (the pitch) three or four yards. That has been overplayed. The problem for me is that the profile of this club is huge."

United's next match is at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, when Shinji Kagawa could make his return from a knee injury.

"I'll see what he's like today and I could maybe put him on the bench tomorrow depending on who is available," Ferguson said.

Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck are also in line to feature, but Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones remain sidelined.

"Rooney is out for at least another two games," Ferguson said.

"He was a bit better yesterday. We're going to assess Phil Jones but I don't think he'll be ready."
