The Reds continued to sharpen up its preparations towards Wednesday night’s important AFC Champions League clash with Korean Champions Seongnam Ilhwa after an encouraging hit out at Santos Stadium.

United won the game 6-0, with Fernando carrying his ominous form from the team’s last AFC Champions League outing finding the back of the net three times while Bruce Djite, Travis Dodd and Kristian Rees also found the target.

The hit out also gave Vidmar the chance to look at how his players who have been recovering from injuries are progressing, and positively, everyone came through unscathed.

Jason Spagnuolo and Lucas Pantelis both played the opening 45 minutes before being rested, while Diego came off after an hour of action.

To give players some much needed match practise, Vidmar had Rob Cornthwaite, Adam van Dommele, Dez Giraldi, Daniel Beltrame, Spagnuolo and Pantelis all suit up for Western Strikers in the opening half.

The game was a beneficial workout for the squad in preparation to face the Korean champions and Vidmar was delighted with the way the players performed and the competitiveness of the hit out.

Ross Aloisi (calf) and Bobby Petta (foot) continue to recover slowly but they both still trained separately from the main group prior to the game.

The team will train on Saturday over the Easter weekend before having a training session at Hindmarsh Stadium on Easter Monday (The team’s session on Monday will be closed to the public). Seongnam Ilhwa arrive in Adelaide on Monday mo
