An FFA spokesperson has backed Brisbane Roar’s bid for a smaller, rectangular stadium closer matched to the club’s average attendance.
The claim comes after the federal government confirmed $4 million in funding for the 2023 Women’s World Cup bid.
Speaking to AAP, the spokesperson said a "FFA believes a boutique rectangular stadium in Brisbane would be of great benefit to the city and to football.
“(It would be) a great asset within the context of a FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023 should Australia be successful in winning the bid.”
Possible stadium renovations include Ballymore and Perry Park.
Rugby league and rugby union could also make use of a smaller stadium, with average attendances dipping in those two competitions.
The possibility of expansion into Brisbane would also be hampered by the city’s current stadium shortages, with Suncorp Stadium’s schedule unable to accommodate another A-league side.
