The former Celtic, Manchester United and Leeds midfielder, played for three A-League clubs towards the end of his professional career.

A-League boss, Greg O’Rourke, said many people involved with the league were today feeling the loss of the highly regarded Miller.

Many of those who took to Twitter to express their condolences were former A-League teammates of the gifted playmaker.

"There has been an outpouring of emotion and respect from clubs, players, and fans following the tragic loss of Liam Miller,” O’Rourke said. “That underlines the esteem in which Liam was and will always be held.

“There will be a moment of silence before tonight’s match between Melbourne City FC, one of Liam’s former clubs, and Sydney FC, while Brisbane Roar’s Westfield W-League side will wear black armbands tomorrow.

“Our thoughts go out to those closest to Liam – his wife, children, family and friends."

Roar picked up a rare win in Melbourne on Friday night, defeating Victory 2-1 at AAMI Park. And Brisbane defender, Jade North, recalled the last time they had achieved that feat was four years ago when Miller scored.

There will also be a moment of silence at Sunday's W-League Semi-Final between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City FC at Perry Park in Queensland.
