EXCLUSIVE: The FFA have moved swiftly to come down hard on divers and suspended the two players who went to ground for penalties in the weekend's game.
It's understood that Central Coast Mariners' Patricio Perez and Perth Glory's Michael Baird have been given two game suspensions for simulation.
Perez won a penalty and got Sydney FC keeper Liam Reddy dismissed for crashing to the ground in the box soon after he came on in his A-league debut.
He scored from the spot to level the scores and give the Mariners a share of the points.
Likewise Glory's Baird also went to ground with no apparent contact in his A-League debut match against Melbourne Heart to deny the competition newcomers their first ever competitive victory.
The ensuing penalty ensured Perth maintained their unbeaten record this season.
Meanwhile Sydney FC keeper Liam Reddy will escape any ban following his dismissal for the Perez incident.
The FFA later confirmed the sanctions following a meeting of the Match Review Panel consisting of Barry Such (Chair), Simon Micallef and Alan Davidson.
A statement added: "The MRP firstly considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application by [Reddy].
"The Obvious Error Application was upheld and, accordingly, the Red Card is expunged from the record of the player and he is not required to serve a sanction.
"The MRP considered whether [Perez] had committed an act of simulation that was not detected by the referee during the match.
"In doing so the MRP determined that the player committed simulation and accordingly the MRP imposed a sanction of two matches. This is the mandatory sanction prescribed under the A-League Disciplinary Regulations for such an offence.
"[In] the circumstances surrounding the penalty awarded to Michael Baird (Perth Glory) in or around the 92nd minute of Perth Glory’s match against Melbourne Heart on Sunday, the MRP considered whether the player had committed an act of simulation that was not detected by the referee during the match.
"In doing so the MRP determined that the player committed simulation and accordingly the MRP imposed a sanction of two matches."
The Mariners this evening back Perez and insisted contact had been made with Reddy.
“The player is adamant that there was some sort of contact by Reddy on his trailing left leg, and we are 100% behind him”, said Mariners CEO John McKay.
“The club was provided footage of the incident by FFA and after reviewing it with our football staff we are at a complete loss as to how the Match Review Panel (MRP) could come to a conclusion that there was definitely no contact.”
Perez will be forced to sit out Friday’s home match against Melbourne Victory and the following Friday night’s fixture against Melbourne Heart, also at Bluetongue Stadium, with disciplinary regulations stating that there is no right of appeal once the MRP has handed down its decision.
McKay added: “It’s disappointing under these circumstances that we’re not able to state our case, and what is even more disappointing is that Patricio has basically been branded a professional cheat without any recourse to profess his innocence.”
Perth Glory said they were exploring their options in light of the decision.
A club statement added: "Perth Glory is shocked and disappointed with the FFA independent Match review panels decision to suspend Michael Baird for two matches.
"The club is also saddened that there is no natural justice and avenue of appeal."
