Football Federation Australia (FFA) have today confirmed Sydney FC will be presented with the 2016-17 Premier’s Plate after their Round 27 clash with Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.
In an FFA statement released on Sunday congratulating the Sky Blues after they secured the premiership by virtue of second-placed Melbourne Victory’s 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar on Saturday, the details were confirmed.
Sydney FC made the request for the presentation to occur after that specific fixture, which in discussion with Fox Sports was approved. The match is on Saturday 15 April.
FFA CEO David Gallop paid tribute to the players, coaching staff and management of Sydney FC for their outstanding achievement.
“Sydney FC has been the form team of the Hyundai A-League 2016-17 Season and have led the competition since round one,” Gallop said.
“In winning the Premiership, Sydney FC has also earned the right to be one of the Australian Clubs to participate in the AFC Champions League 2018 competition.
