Two-time Cup finalists Glory couldn't match the intensity of the semi-pro team who joined a rare group of NPL outfits to thwart A-League opponents in the national knockout competition.

In other Round 32 matches, reining Cup holders Melbourne City defeated Peninsula Power 2-0 to progress to the Round of 16.

APIA Leichardt stormed through to the next round smashing Olympia FC 5-0, with an impressive hat-trick by Sean Symons.

Meanwhile Western Sydney and Wellington Phoenix went to extra time - Wanderers marqee Oriol Riera deciding it at the death with a header off the corner through heavy traffic.

The matches began with a minute's silence to honour the passing of Australian football legend, Les Murray.

But it was the Match of the Round that caused a huge upset when Heidelberg got the better of a sluggish Perth Glory.

The Bergers, currently leading the Victorian NPL ladder, showed little respect for their topflight opponents, giving the underdone Glory almost no time to settle into the match.

The home side were relentless and squandered a host of chances. Still it took two top shelf saves from Liam Reddy to deny them a double on the brink of half time.

But just minutes after the restart Ken "King" Athiu found a way past the goalkeeper. for the opener on 48 minutes.

Nothing came easy for Glory who in just their third match of the preseason struggled to put together any meaningful attack. When they did, Andy Keogh came agonisingly close to finding the equaliser. Coach Kenny Lowe threw Daniel Stynes into the mix and the youngster nearly found Glory's opener on 76'. But it was Heidelberg who prevailed with a result that will be celebrated long into the night.
