FFA high performance supremo John Boultbee has declared the Socceroos’ Camp Singapore a success, although he reveals that the Aussie national anthem did catch out some of the visitors before Saturday night’s friendly against the Lions.
“Not even the Australian ambassador knew the second stanza of our national anthem,” Boultbee told au.fourfourtwo.com today from Singapore.
The local singer also caught most of the Socceroos out with this rare rendition of "Advance Australia Fair", with a number of bemused looks on the players’ faces when the tune revealed lyrics rarely if ever heard in this country.
But that aside, Boultbee has given the tiny nation a big tick following Australia’s 3-0 victory over the hosts.
“It’s been very good for us… Singapore has been the perfect place.
“It’s achieved its purpose in terms of training and the game against their national team was testing, which is what we wanted it to be.”
The Socceroos will remain at their luxury hotel base and training camp until Wednesday when they fly into Bangkok ahead of their first ever Asian Cup match against Oman this Sunday.
And the good news is, we’ll have minute by minute descriptions of the action on this website if you don’t have access to Fox Sports.
