FFA plan to review the A-League's format, rules and more at the end of this season.
The changes are part of FFA's refreshment of the competition, which has been criticised for stagnation in the wake of record-poor attendances this season.
In line with the announcement of two new expansion clubs in October, to be introduced in the 2019/20 season, FFA will review every aspect of its competition format.
FFA are reportedly considering a preliminary final option, whereby the top teams would get a second final if they lose, after Sydney FC finished 14-points clear as Premiers but lost to Melbourne Victory in the semi-finals.
A-League boss, Greg O'Rourke, also fledged the the idea of each side only playing each other twice every season.
"At the moment we play three times, there's an argument that's one time too many," O'Rourke told AAP.
"It's not inconsistent with what happens in other leagues around the world ... but there's a small amount of teams.
"So we'll have a look to see whether a more simple home-and-away (season) with just two rounds makes sense when you expand.
"And then as part of that there's the questions of the finals series. Could it be a week longer? Could we give top teams another go?
"All those mechanics will be reviewed through expansion."
