THE FFA have launched a full-scale probe into the alleged crowd disturbances that marred the end of the Melbourne Victory derby clash with Sydney FC.
Rival fans were kept apart by police at the end of the goalless stalemate but it's claimed some Victory fans invaded the pitch and set fire to items on the field.
Sydney fans had been shepherded into a separate area but were said to have begun throwing seats in retaliation.
Police were reported to have moved in with capiscum spray to break up the crowd, allegedly spraying youngsters in the process.
Now the FFA are to investigate the claims.
"We are aware of media reports regarding an alleged crowd disturbance following the Melbourne Victory versus Sydney FC match last night," said FFA's Head of A-League Operations Rob Abernethy.
"Although FFA treats such allegations as extremely serious, it is important that as an organisation that we have all the facts before us to make an educated assessment of the issue.
"I have spoken with the Melbourne Victory CEO, Geoff Miles, today and we will be seeking a full event report from the club as well as the venue, security services provider and the Victorian State Police.
"Once all reports have been received we will then review all the available information and then take the appropriate course of action."
He added: "It is disappointing that a minority of so-called supporters may have behaved in an inappropriate manner."
