FOOTBALL Federation Australia has set up an internal division within the national body to head up Australia's World Cup bid and has appointed key FFA staffers to important positions in the newly set up division.
Stuart Taggart, previously an FFA events manager, will move full-time into a project management position while Bonita Mersiades will continue in her role as head of corporate and public affairs but with the added responsibility of domestic and international communications, marketing, government relations, corporate social responsibility and stakeholder and community relations.
"It's about delivering the best possible technical bid to FIFA which will be one of the great advantages for Australia within the overall bid process," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley today.
A further 12-15 appointments will be made to the new Cup bid division over the coming weeks as the FFA ramps up its bid process.
Ben Buckley will continue to lead the World Cup management team "to integrate the bid activities with the ongoing FFA operations," he explained.
The FFA is bidding for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Buckley added that the feedback that FFA has received from the football world broadly has been positive.
"We believe there's a lot of support for Australia to host a World Cup. We're as confident as when we launched this initiative," he added.
"I can assure you that this is an absolute priority to [FFA Chairman] Mr Lowy."
