Football Federation Australia (FFA) revealed they have once again sanctioned a registered player in relation to betting on football matches in Australia.
In a statement released on Friday, the governing body announced a player registered in Western Australia had breached the FFA National Code of Conduct.
The player was found to have bet on various football matches in Australia, including the A-League and National Premier Leagues.
The statement read: "FFA has determined to impose a sanction of a $1,000 suspended fine, which will be triggered immediately in the event of another breach of the Code of Conduct.
"The participant has a right of appeal under the Code of Conduct to FFA’s independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee."
It not the first time a player registered in WA has been sanctioned by the FFA.
In February a player was also handed a $1,000 suspended fine for betting, while two different players and a coach from WA were sanctioned in April back in 2015.
However, WA is not the only state effected, with a player from the Tasmanian National Premier League handed a two-match suspension and a $2000 AUD fine in 2016 for betting on matches involving his own side.
FFA CEO David Gallop has previously stated the governing body's hard stance on gambling.
“Under FIFA’s statutes, registered players, coaches, referees and club officials are not allowed to bet on football matches anywhere,” Gallop said in an FFA statement.
“The FFA National Code of Conduct reflects the FIFA statutes.
“The integrity of football matches at all levels is paramount. Betting on matches is a legal activity, but it must have the safeguards of thorough regulation. FFA is committed to ensuring its regulations are upheld as part of its overall integrity measures.”
