A special general meeting of FFV is set down for September 27, where both parties will meet to thrash out the issue.

The NPL has already kicked off in a number of other states, but a bloc of clubs in Victoria are standing firm saying the financial model for the proposed NPL  would be disastrous.

At a meeting of Zone representatives on September 2, it was resolved to call the meeting where they are planning a resolution to cease the establishment of an NPL.

They are also calling for the FFV board to resign in what should be a fiery encounter.

At this point, only 15 applications to join the Victorian NPL are said to have been received by the FFV.

An estimated 30-50 clubs are said to oppose the new NPL direction, including local powerhouse club South Melbourne.

“They are acting contrary to the best interests of Registered Participants and Clubs in Victoria,” stated the special resolution.

The request was signed by Michael Woodward, Aki Ionnas and Felice Lomuto.

Insiders in Victoria have told au.fourfourtwo.com that the FFV direction on the NPL does not follow the FFA’s NCR recommendations – a key pillar of the NPL model nationally.

Financial modelling estimated that an NPL team under the FFV model would lose approximately $140,000-$200,000 annually, claim insiders.

The stoush is attracting negative headlines in the southern state and the FFA are keen to see both sides of the dispute enter into dialogue to end the stand-off.

“FFA is aware that there is a mediation session planned for later this month regarding the current situation in Victoria,” an FFA spokesperson told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"FFA will continue to closely monitor proceedings as all parties work towards an outcome that is in the best interests of the game."
