Football Federation Australia (FFA) hopes to announce the venue for the 2017 FFA Cup final between Adelaide United and Sydney FC on Thursday.
The FFA Cup final will be played on Tuesday 21 November, although complexity was added to FFA's decision after Western Sydney lost their semi-final to Adelaide on Tuesday night.
FFA would have hoped for a Sydney Derby Cup final which would have made for a bumper fixture with a strong attendance and ensured the New South Wales capital as the host city.
Instead, FFA will need to decide between Sydney and Adelaide as the host city, along with finding a venue to play the game.
All three previous FFA Cup finals have been won by the side playing in their home city.
FFA will consider a range of criteria, including venue availability, scheduling around A-League matches, cost, ability to take the game to as many fans as possible, club input and broadcast partner input.
Sydney FC missed out on playing last year's Cup final in their home town with Melbourne City hosting the fixture, which the hosts won 1-0 at AAMI Park.
Sydney's home ground Allianz Stadium is scheduled to host A-League fixtures in the weekends prior to and after the Cup final.
No FFA Cup final has managed a crowd in excess of 20,000 which will fear FFA decision-makers, given Allianz Stadium's capacity of 45,500 and the potential appearance of a half-full stadium for a match they want to glamorise.
Adelaide hosted the inaugural Cup final against Perth Glory with 16,142 in attendance, while AAMI Park was also the venue in 2015 when Melbourne Victory defeated Glory.
