FOOTBALL Federation Australia has confirmed a ballpark pricetag of $15 million for anyone wanting to buy A-League Premiers Western Sydney Wanderers.
No time frame has been put on the sale but au.fourfourtwo.com has been told the right buyer would need to embrace the strong community ethos of the club.
The fledgling side's huge on-field success in its inaugural year, passionate fanbase and Asian Champions League qualification are seen as key selling points.
A community ownership model has not been ruled out entirely despite the appointment of investment bank UBS to identify a private buyer.
FFA representatives met recently with UBS executives to finalise the appointment, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.
The governing body originally suggested bankrolling the franchise for three years but in March it emerged the outfit could be offloaded much earlier.
Parramatta City, where the club has its home ground, has enjoyed a huge economic boost on the back of the Wanderers success story.
And club executive chairman Lyall Gorman said the club has become an increasingly attractive commodity for sponsors.
Responding to questions about the future ownership of the club in January, Gorman said: “The aim is to build the club and get the building blocks and the foundations strong.
“When they’re strong and I suppose, in inverted commas, bullet-proof, you could transition it into an external ownership and feel comfortable that the club’s culture and brand was protected.
“That would be the time to have those discussions but we’re a way off getting those foundations to the level we want to get them to.”
Gorman has always insisted that the club’s culture would need to be robust before transferring to a new ownership model.
According to AFR, Wanderers director Paul Lederer, the majority owner of food manufacturer Primo Smallgoods with an estimated wealth of $630 million, has been pinpointed as a potential buyer of the club.
