THE FFA have sparked new controversy by rescheduling Sydney's postponed clash with Perth Glory to kick off at 5.30 in Campbelltown on Wednesday January 18 instead.
The last night's original date for the match was called off after storms in Perth meant Glory's flight to Sydney was cancelled on the eve of the clash.
But the new time and date has stunned fans hoping to attend, with many unable to get away from work in time to reach Campbelltown - on the outskirts of Western Sydney - before kick-off.
And others even in Campbelltown have said they won't be able to make it now with the earlier kick-off.
It's understood the clubs were offered two other dates to play the game - next Wednesday, December 14, and the Wednesday before the new date, January 11 - but both were ruled out because of travel concerns.
The already scheduled match the same evening between Melbourne Heart and Centrall Coast Mariners forced the early kick-off to fit in with Fox Sports demands under the A-League broadcast deal.
But the FFA still believes they will get a healthy crowd of around 6,000 to the game - with schoolkids and students being targeted.
"Not everyone works nine to five," said an FFA spokesman. "And this is not a Sydney home game - it is a regional game for the people of Campbelltown."
Head of A-League Lyall Gorman said the game was part of the 'community matches' program the league has been running.
"One of the main purposes of these 'Community' matches is to bring the Hyundai A-League to new regions and markets in Australia," Gorman said.
"Unfortunately the original match was affected by severe weather causing a postponement.
"With this re-scheduled date and kick-off time we hope to engage with a very large and supportive football public in the Campbelltown and greater western Sydney region.
"This will be a true celebration of football for the community in this region and we will look to make this an even more enticing proposition for the kids and students in the area to come out, support the game and get involved.
"This will be a great chance for the local community to get out and support their heroes and who better encapsulates this than local star Brett Emerton."
