Veteran striker Romario has become the first Brazilian to be invited on to the FIFA Technical and Development Committee.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president and FIFA Executive Committee member Ricardo Teixeira asked the 41-year-old Vasco da Gama forward to take the post on the committee headed by Michel Platini.
"I hope I can be inspired to give good advice when they need me," the 1994 World Cup winner told O Globo newspaper.
"I have never been interested in anything but football. This invitation came at the right moment for me.
"It's an honour to know I will have the opportunity to contribute with work for FIFA."
Other Technical and Development Committee members include 1986 World Cup-winning coach Carlos Bilardo, former Colombia coach Francisco Maturana and 1998 World Cup-winning defender Laurent Blanc.
And Romario already has ideas for his new role.
"When I am officially named a member, my idea is to talk to people from around the world of football to change their opinions.
"I think I can make some interesting suggestions," he added.
