With the next two World Cups, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014, hosted away from the European continent, UEFA are keen to see the 2018 event guaranteed for football's heartland.

Blatter has been is discussions with UEFA boss Michel Platini in Moscow and admitted that FIFA is considering restricting the 2018 bid to only European nations.

"There is a movement at the moment among the various candidates that in the end it would be a good solution... if the candidates for 2018 would only be those from Europe," Blatter said.

"It's not been finally decided but it's the idea, also to make the work of FIFA easier and especially that of the executive committee."

Russia and England have applied separately to stage the 2018 or 2022 World Cups while Spain and Portugal and Netherlands and Belgium have made joint bids for one or both.

While a shutout of non-European nations would be a blow to Australia's prospects of hosting in 2018, it could strengthen the case for it to host the 2022 World Cup.

Football Federation Australia will submit bid documentation by the end of May while FIFA will select the 2018 and 2022 hosts in Zurich in December.

Meanwhile, FFA has appointed Rod Allen as Head of Media Relations after the sudden departure of Bonita Mersiades last week. Allen will work on all locally-based media aspects of Australia's World Cup bid, while an international consultant Joanna Burns, will manage overseas communication surrounding the bid.
