Hamburg head coach Thorsten Fink has admitted new players are needed at his club.
Following a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, Fink stressed the need for a central defender, central midfielder and a playmaker before the new Bundesliga season.
With their new financial power from billionaire Klaus-Michael Kuhne, Hamburg are expected to enter the transfer market with vigour with a central defender the main priority following Slobodan Rajkovic's suspension for a training ground altercation.
"I do not want to say the names of other players we want to buy. We knew from the beginning which players we want to buy, Fink said.
"We need another central midfielder, a playmaker and a central defender. We need to buy someone in that position after what happened in the past few weeks."
Hamburg were hit by goals from Daniel Alves and Gerard Deulofeu either side of Tolgay-Ali Arslan's strike to give Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova a win in his first game in charge.
The match was the third in the past 10 days for Hamburg and Fink said progress was being made.
"My team played three good games in the past week. They wanted to win the Cup there. So we are on the right track," he said.
"Today wasn't an accurate measure - we are still not fit and also tired. Clearly we need to expect more in the coming weeks, but actually the guys did a good job."
