Roberto Mancini's team made it three wins from their opening three Barclays Premier League games this afternoon with a ruthless display of attacking football at White Hart Lane.

Dzeko was the destroyer-in-chief for Mancini's men, scoring four times, with Sergio Aguero also adding another in the second half. Tottenham's consolation came 22 minutes from time through Younes Kaboul.

Had it not been for Manchester United's 8-2 destruction of Arsenal at Old Trafford, City would be topping the table going into the international break.

Victories over Swansea and Bolton were expected, but today's comprehensive defeat of a team who last season were regarded as one of the club's main rivals, shows a clear step up in class from Mancini's side.

Dzeko was delighted with his and his team-mates' performance but still maintains the best is yet to come from the squad.

"We made a statement here today. We showed people what we can do," Dzeko told City's website.

"Today was something special for me, to score four goals in the Premier League is fantastic.

"I think we're getting better and better. I hope we can improve in the next game and try to win every game."

Dzeko was ridiculed after failing to make an impression following his £27million move from Wolfsburg in January, but he has started this season on fire, scoring seven times in four matches.

Mancini is glad he kept faith with the 25-year-old as he reflected on another morale-boosting win for his team.

"We played a really good game against what is a fantastic team," he said.

"I was always sure Dzeko would score a lot of goals for us, he always scored in Wolfsburg.

"The only thing I'm disappointed with is that we conceded. I think we need to pay more attention in this situation."

Dzeko opened the scoring in the 34th minute when he got on the end of Samir Nasri's cross and the Frenchman played in the striker again for his second - a well-crafted header - just before the break.

The former Wolfsburg man tapped in for his hat-trick in the second half before completing his scoring with a beautiful curling effort in injury time.

City first team coach David Platt was pleased to see the club's patience with Dzeko is finally paying off

"People have got to create those chances, but he finished them well," Platt said.

"He gets in there. His movement's very good, the way he manipulates the football, gets into position, scores dirty goals - scrambled goals.

"He couldn't get into the game so much (last season) due to the pace of English football, but the signs were coming last season, and he's been excellent since pre-season this time around."

Had Dzeko not bagged four goals, it would have been Nasri who would have been grabbing the headlines.

The France midfielder slotted easily into the team, setting up Dzeko twice and also playing in Aguero for the fourth, just four days after completing his move from Arsenal.

"Debuts are only like that when they're very, very good players like him," Platt said of Nasri's bow.

"He's brought confidence with him and you can see the quality he's got."

Platt thinks Nasri's arrival will be the last bit of business at the club this summer.

"There's been an aggressive buying cycle this summer," said Platt.

"There's 72 hours to go, and who knows what will happen, but I'll be very surprised if we make a bigger headline than we do tomorrow morning."
