The Sky Blues demolished Wellington Phoenix 7-1 last weekend courtesy of a four goal masterclass from star signing Alessandro Del Piero.

Victory aim to provide a much sterner test for the harbour-siders at AAMI Park on Saturday and Flores admits winning games is no longer enough for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

“We started the season thinking we want to be the champion but then we win games and we’re not happier, because we want to play at another level,” the quietly spoken Flores said.

“We don’t know where we’re going to be. We know this ceiling is really high for this team because every day we tell each other that we can improve.

“I don’t know where we will go or how far we can be but I know it could be amazing. And that is why every time I wake up in the morning I’m happy to train.”

Victory sit third on the league ladder and snatched a memorable 3-2 win over Sydney in the last Big Blue at Allianz Stadium in November, but the visitors are a different proposition this time around.

Much of the focus will be on the Sky Blues' new recruit Joel Griffiths, who scored on debut last week.

Flores knows firsthand how lethal the former Golden Boot winner can be in front of goal.

The Argentine had a cameo role in former club Henan Jianye’s loss to Griffiths’s Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League and remembers the Aussie as clever and mobile.

“I know he’s one smart player, he moves a lot and our defence is going to have to be focused for the full 90 minutes,” Flores said.

“We know that players like Del Piero and (Jason) Culina they can make a difference.”

“I can’t wait – it’s a beautiful game for us, for them and for all the fans. Everyone looks forward to these type of games.”

Flores has hit good form heading into the back end of the season, scoring twice in Victory’s last three games.

And the playmaker says the team will focus on names such as Marco Rojas, Archie Thompson and Billy Celeski rather than any star line-up Sydney can assemble on the park.

The dissatisfaction in the dressing room after Victory’s rare 1-0 away win to Perth on Saturday summed up the club’s uncompromising mindset under Postecoglou.

And after a slow start on the road to “something beautiful”, the team is now seen as genuine title contenders.

“It is the first time in my career that this thing happened when you beat a team and pick up three points and the team is still upset,” Flores said.

“We get upset because we knew that we could have scored goals and we could play better. That is how far we want to get as a team. And I am very proud of my team to have this mentality.”

After a decade in senior professional football, the 27-year-old is also happy to learn you never stop learning.

“I thought I was doing well in my past but now when I am playing that kind of football it pushes me to my 110 per cent,” he said.

“Every day I’m going to training I know it’s a test to see if I’m going to do well or not and I really like to feel like that.

“Because Ange everyday looks at me and in his eyes I see he’s expecting more and more and I’m humble enough to know I can be better. Every day I can be better.”
