MATCH PREVIEWS - JUNE 13/14, 2009
STATE PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 9 MATCH OF THE WEEK
Inglewood United v Swan United - Clipsal Stadium - 3.00pm Saturday
Broadcast live on Heritage FM 107.3 from 2.45pm. Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon
A strong mid-table battle is set to stage the Match of the Week at Clipsal Stadium on Saturday when ninth-placed Inglewood United host sixth-placed Swan United. The visitors are just out of a Finals position on goal difference, largely due to their slow start to the campaign. A win for Inglewood could bump them into the top five after losing two of their last three matches.
Inglewood went down 4-2 against Canning City last weekend while Swan were 4-1 winners against ECU Joondalup, to continue their rich vein of form. Both teams need to set up their Finals challenges as the halfway point of the season approaches, so expect some goals! You can tune into Heritage 107.3FM from 2.45pm on Saturday to get the live broadcast with Bob Figg.
Western Knights v Mandurah City - Nash Field - 3.00pm Saturday
Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon
The Football West TV feature match looks a tantalizing affair as the third-placed Western Knights host Mandurah City. The Knights have played at Nash Field five times this season and have won every single encounter, making their home ground a fortress. Mandurah have endured an up and down season after eight matches with four wins, three losses and a draw.
The Knights have the second best defence in the League so City are going to need a big effort from their strikers to pierce through the Knights' armour. The home side wasn't impressive last week against Armadale, scraping home with a 2-1 win, while Mandurah came away with a 2-2 draw with Sorrento at Hyundai Stadium. City will be still missing their suspended coach Stuart Currie and first-choice 'keeper Phil Staker.
Other State Premier League Fixtures:
Cockburn City v Floreat Athena - Dalmatinac Park - 3.00pm Saturday
ECU Joondalup v Armadale - ECU Joondalup - 3.00pm Saturday
Sorrento v Perth SC - Percy Doyle Reserve - 3.00pm Saturday
Canning City v Stirling Lions - Burrendah Reserve - 3.00pm Sunday
STATE DIVISION ONE - ROUND 9 MATCH OF THE WEEK
South West Phoenix v Wanneroo City - Westrac Stadium - 3.00pm Saturday
After a disappointing 2-0 loss to Bayswater City last week, South West Phoenix will be hoping for a much improved showing at home against Wanneroo City this weekend. City sit on top of the table, while the Phoenix slumped to fourth following their loss at Frank Drago Reserve. Wanneroo's impressive start to the season has continued with a 6-0 drubbing of cellar dwellers Ashfield in Round 8. South West Phoenix is undefeated down in Bunbury this season with Dianella White Eagles the only team to escape with a point at Westrac Stadium. Stephen Suttie has been the Phoenix's leading goal scorer this season with seven and will need a big effort from him to upset the League leaders.
Other State Division One Fixtures:
Fremantle Spirit v Bayswater City - Wauhop Park - 3.00pm Saturday
Morley-Windmills v Dianella White Eagles - Wotton Reserve - 3.00pm Saturday
Queens Park v Gosnells City - Coker Park - 3.00pm Saturday
Forrestfield United v Ashfield - Hartfield Park - 3.00pm Saturday
Rockingham City v Balcatta - Lark Hill - 7.00pm Saturday
AMATEUR PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 9 MATCH OF THE WEEK
UWA v Fremantle United - McGillivray Oval - 3.00pm Sunday
After defeating Lynwood United 2-1 in last week's Match of the Week, UWA will be full on confidence as they take on reigning Premiers Fremantle United. The visitors to McGillivray Oval have been a shadow of the team that took out the 2008 title, sitting sixth on the table with four wins and four losses. They also scraped home 3-2 winners against Southern Spirit last weekend. Sheppard has led the way in front of goal for UWA, while Palermo has been Fremantle's main strike force. United are six points behind the League leaders Shamrock Rovers, who also have a game in hand, so Fremantle need to start their charge if they are indeed going to go back-to-back.
Other Amateur Premier League Fixtures:
Stirling Panthers v Arena Joondalup - Yuluma Reserve - 3.00pm Sunday
Spearwood Dalies v Hamersley Rovers - Dalmatinac Park - 3.00pm Sunday

Southern Spirit v Murdoch Uni - Watson Oval - 3.00pm Sunday
SMARTER THAN SMOKING WOMEN'S PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 7 MATCH OF THE WEEK
Mandurah City v Gosnells City - Hyundai Stadium - 1.00pm Sunday
By Ann Odong
The match of the round sees to closely matched teams in Mandurah City and Gosnells City do battle at Hyundai Stadium.
After a great start to the season Mandurah City have stumbled of late but Alistair Rhode's side has been competitive of late with an encouraging 1 - nil loss last week.
The newly promoted Gosnells City will be looking for their first win of the season. Ann Gourley's side have had a tough start to the Premier League but with some promising young players in the squad, this might be the turning point for Gosnell's season.
