March sees a flurry of activity for football in Western Australia, with the final of the McInerney Ford Night Series, 2007 Season Launch and the Football West Shield Weekend kicking off what promises to be an exciting 2007 season.
McInerney Ford Night Series
The McInerney Ford Night Series Final, a pre-season tournament which is a favourite among the West Australian football community, will be held on Sunday, 25 March 2007 at E&D Litis Stadium, home of Floreat Athena. The Smarter than Smoking Women’s Night Series Final, which last year was won by Balcatta, will be staged at Coker Park on Sunday, 25 March kicking off at 6.00pm.
The Night Series sees approximately 1,100 players compete for the prestigious title. Teams are spilt into two conferences in the Premier Division, with the top two teams of each conference advancing to the semi-final on Sunday, 18 March 2007.
Football West Launch
The inaugural 2007 Football West Launch will be staged on Wednesday, 28 March at one of Perth’s premier night spots, Onyx Bar, West Perth.
The event will showcase all that is football with a player parade featuring teams from the State League, First Division, Amateur Premier and Women’s Premier divisions, ball juggling by one of Australia’s best ball jugglers, a video montage, models, dancers, singers and much more.
Entry to the event is free. However, tickets are limited. So to avoid disappointment please call (08) 9422 6900 to reserve your place in what promises to be one fantastic and entertaining evening.
Football West Shield
Players from State League sides Sorrento and Stirling Lions, Amateur Division teams Spearwood Dalmatinac and Fremantle United, and Balcatta and Queens Park from the Women’s Premier League, will tackle it out in the Football West Shield over the last weekend in March, hosted by Floreat Athena and Spearwood Dalmatinac.
The event will see 2006 Cup winners versus League winners in this exciting initiative, which will also feature players from each Premier League side, compete in Football West’s inaugural Sprint Challenge.
This exciting weekend of football will also incorporate a friendly match between the recently launched National Training Centre (NTC) boy’s team, and a Football West State League 11 consisting of players from the Premier League U18s nominated by each Premier League club.
"This week of football embraces all that is great about our sport and is a fitting curtain raiser to the start of the 2007 season which kicks off on Saturday, 14 April," said Mr. Garry Chandler, CEO Football West.
"We hope the WA football community will get behind these events and help us celebrate the launch of what promises to be a fantastic season."
