APB STATE LEAGUE PREMIER - ROUND 8 MATCH OF THE WEEK
Floreat Athena v Sorrento - E&D Litis Stadium - 3.00pm Saturday
Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon
Tune into Heritage 107.3FM from 2.45pm for the live broadcast with host Bob Figg
Round 8 of the newly-named APB State League kicks off this weekend with a huge contest taking place at E&D Litis Stadium. Third-placed Floreat Athena will host fourth-placed Sorrento in what shapes to be a great clash between two in-form teams. Athena are coming off a 4-2 away win over Cockburn City while the Gulls were too strong for newcomers Balcatta defeating them by the same score line at Percy Doyle Reserve last weekend.
Floreat midfield maestro Branimir Mikulic has been in superb form in 2010 and leads the way in the race for the Golden Boot with nine goals in seven matches. The evergreen Mikulic has also been well-supported this season with Daniel Neiderberger and Johny Mirco with four goals apiece.
Sorrento has since been unbeaten after their disappointing Round 4 thrashing at the hands of Armadale thanks to the skills of new recruit David Foster leading the line and the experienced Glen Thomas, who scored a goal-of-the-season contender last week against Balcatta. The Gulls are climbing the ladder steadily and this match will prove a good barometer of each sides finals chances.
APB STATE LEAGUE PREMIER - ROUND 8 FEATURE MATCH
Balcatta v Perth SC - Grindleford Reserve - 3.00pm Saturday
Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon
Traditional rivals Balcatta and Perth SC will do battle at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday in Round 8's Feature Match of the APB State League Premier division. Premier newcomers Balcatta began the season in sensational fashion, winning their opening three matches to sit top-of-the-table. Reigning champions Perth had a slower start to the year after being defeated by Floreat Athena in Round 3, but have since gone on a winning run which now sees them two points clear on the table in first place.
Last week saw Balcatta defeated 4-2 away to Sorrento, while Perth was able to defeat Western Knights 2-1 at BGC Stadium in arguably one of the season's best matches. Ashley Rosindale has been Balcatta's star this season in the Premier League, averaging a goal a game following a stellar 2009 which saw him crowned Division One's player of the year. Despite a slow start to 2010, Perth captain David Onoforo bounced back to his best against the Knights with a goal and an assist to lead his side to a crucial victory in the race for the championship title.

APB STATE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE - ROUND 6 MATCH OF THE WEEK
Bayswater City v Ashfield - Frank Drago Reserve - 3.00pm Saturday
Round 6 of the APB State League Division One will see Bayswater City host Ashfield at Frank Drago Reserve in the match of the week. City sits just a game off top spot on the table in fifth place, while Ashfield are ninth. Last week saw Bayswater easily account for Dianella White Eagles in last weekend's pick of the fixtures with an empathic 3-0 win at Dianella Reserve. Ashfield lost their shootout with Rockingham City at home after a 3-2 result in Round 5. Bayswater would be joint league leaders with Bunbury Forum Force if they weren't stripped of their Round 3 win over Canning City following a rule breach involving a suspended player. A win for Ashfield could potentially jump them into the top six.

SMARTER THAN SMOKING WOMEN'S PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 3 MATCH OF THE WEEK
Subiaco AFC v UWA-Nedlands - Rosalie Park - 3.00pm Sunday
By Ann Odong
This week's match of the round sees the new Subiaco AFC host a resurgent UWA-Nedlands at Rosalie Park. Subiaco AFC enters the 2010 season with a new coach, squad and football outlook. With only a handful of players from last season's squad still running around, Coach Dan Evans has had the task of assembling a very competitive unit. The Lions possess a strong defensive unit lead by goalkeeper Marissa Pidgeon and marshalled by centre back Kitty Foley and former NTC squad member Jen Chantler. The Lions had the best possible start to their season with a 1 - 0 win over the newly-promoted Bunbury Forum Force in week one but didn't receive reward for effort when they were defeated by Queens Park last week. For the Lions to double their points on Sunday, a big effort will be required from their midfield and in particular Sonja Felderhof, Meg Connop and the US-bound Brittany Dyer-Smith.
UWA-Nedlands started off their season with a defeat at the hands of East Fremantle but bounced back well with a big draw against the much-fancied Northern Redbacks. In a tough match UWA-Nedlands displayed their fighting qualities with the side coming back several times throughout the match and coach Conrad McKelvie will be looking for that same resilience this weekend. UWA-Nedlands pride themselves on team football and that will once again be on show. However, if they are to defeat the Lions, Amber Roberts and the returning Stephanie Graskoski will need to be at the forefront.
This should be a tight and exciting encounter between two sides ready to play entertaining total football.
