APB STATE PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 9 MATCH OF THE WEEK

Floreat Athena v Balcatta - E&D Litis Stadium - 3.00pm Saturday

Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon

As we approach the halfway mark of the APB State Premier League, the race for the title is closing up at the top of the table. The top three are separated by just two points and looking at the other end of the table, the bottom five are separated by two points. Floreat Athena will host the in-form Balcatta in Round 9's match of the week at E&D Litis Stadium. Athena sits in third place, with Balcatta just a game behind in fourth.

Floreat missed a huge chance to leap up the table after they had a 0-0 draw at home to Sorrento last weekend, while Balcatta into fourth place after their massive 5-1 upset of reigning champions Perth SC in the Mother's Day Massacre. Balcatta's Ashley Rosindale starred in that match as he returns from injury concerns, while he was ably-supported by Lucas Whitehouse who bagged a brace. Athena missed Daniel Neiderberger up front against Sorrento and need some firepower to support Johny Mirco up front.

APB STATE PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 9 FEATURE MATCH

Stirling Lions v Mandurah City - Macedonia Park - 3.00pm Saturday

Match highlights available on www.footballwest.tv from Monday afternoon

Tune into Heritage 107.3FM from 2.30pm for the live broadcast with host Bob Figg

Macedonia Park will play host to Round 9's feature match when Stirling Lions are at home to Mandurah City in the APB State Premier League. Last week saw the Lions maul Inglewood United 3-0, while the Dolphins held Armadale to an entertaining 2-2 draw at home.

Sixth-placed Stirling could jump into finals contention with three points in a match where Mandurah's new signing Jordan Rhodes will be up against his former club. The Lions may be without young stars Dean Evans and Ludovic Boi who are on trial with the Hyundai A-League's Brisbane Roar. City's talismanic midfielder Andy Brown was the star last week with his double saving a point for his side and will need to be on song again. Last year saw Brown score the 2009 Goal of the Season in this very fixture.

SMARTER THAN SMOKING WOMEN'S PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 4 FEATURE MATCH

Balcatta v Northern Redbacks - Grindleford Reserve - 1.00pm Sunday

By Ann Odong

Round 4 of the Smarter than Smoking Women's Premier League sees Balcatta and the Northern Redbacks do battle in the feature match.  Unlike last season, Balcatta have started 2010 in scintillating form with the only blemish a tight loss to East Fremantle in Round 2. The northern side have quality all across the park; however it's up front that they are particularly potent. Golden boot favourite Caitlin Dingle, Prue Cormie, Ashleigh Panaia and Jiami Carley are just some of the players who have seen Balcatta net 14 goals in three matches.

Conversely the Northern Redbacks have had a more subdued start to their season with injuries to key players Lindsay Jobling, Jackie Nellany and Emily Dunn forcing coach Tim Hodgson to reshuffle his line-up. Despite that, the Redbacks are only two points away from top spot with newcomers Jade Willis and Lauren Rilly making an impact in the midfield alongside regulars Nicola Williams and Rebecca Dudek. It will be a big defence job this weekend for the visitors but if they can break even in the middle of the park, it will go a long way to a Redbacks victory.

The last time these two sides met, all that separated them was an 87th minute strike from Caitlin Dingle in the Smarter than Smoking Women's Night Series Final.  With Balcatta in devastating form and the Northern Redbacks getting into their stride, this should be another classic encounter.

Other Smarter than Smoking Women's Premier League Fixtures:

Queens Park v Bunbury Forum Force - Coker Park - 1.00pm Sunday

East Fremantle v Subiaco AFC - Wauhop Park - 1.00pm Sunday

UWA-Nedlands FC v Beckenham Angels - McGillivray Oval - 3.00pm Sunday
