As of later this year, the spectacular Swan Street venue will be the permanent home of new A-League franchise Melbourne Heart as well as a regular home ground for crosstown rivals Melbourne Victory.

It could also potentially host various national team games.

Victory's current home, Etihad Stadium, has been blighted by multi-use issues with dance parties over New Year and other live entertainment events that have affected the surface for A-League football.

Last weekend's Melbourne Victory versus Perth Glory A-League encounter was a prime example. A stage installed on the ground for a New Year's Eve party left clear areas of the ground very patchy and caused Glory to question whether the game should go ahead.

Over the last year or so, a concert by Andre Rieu has also played havoc with the surface but the worst case was the previous new year's eve following the Sensation Dance Party, which attracted around 40,000 punters to Etihad.

A few days later, stadium workers were seen picking metal and other remnants out of the pitch an hour before the Melbourne Victory versus Roar game. The clash was also close to being called off with the surface arguably one of the worst in A-League history.

Marketing and Communications manager Melbourne Olympic Parks Jo Juler today told au.fourfourtwo.com it was possible for soon-to-be-launched Melbourne Rectangular Stadium to be configured for outdoor concerts and events such as those hosted in recent times at Etihad Stadium.

"We are aware of the turf issues around concert use and will make those decisions on a case by case basis," she said.

Melbourne Rectangular Stadium have employed the turf manager from Etihad Stadium who will be fully aware of the damage that can be caused.

"The stadium is the home of soccer and rugby and this is our priority," she added.

Meanwhile Melbourne Heart camp are remaining silent on the launch of the new A-League club's logo, colours and official name.

These key elements of the club's brand were hoped to be unveiled before Christmas. However, the club said legal hold-ups have forced a delay and almost three weeks into the New Year, there is still no news on when they will be launched.

However, in an update today, Scott Munn, CEO of Melbourne Heart, informed au.fourfourtwo.com that an announcement will likely be made in ten days time.
