"They keep surprising me and to be honest we're not scared of Brazil or any team we meet now," Matildas coach Tom Sermanni said after the Canada match.

And make no mistake, playing Brazil is not a mismatch. The Matildas have already shown they have what it takes to not only compete at this level, but succeed.

The Aussie side has a strong spine. Keeper Melissa Barbier, central defender Cheryl Salisbury, central midfielder Collette McCullum, striker Lisa De Vanna and wide threat Heather Garriock.

What's more, this campaign has been iced by some incredible goals. Garriock's stunning header against Ghana was in technique terms Viduka-esque. Collette McCullum's left footed curling free-kick against Canada was absolutely world class.

And top it all off there's Lisa De Vanna. Faster than a speeding bullet, this superwoman in our super side is the one player you feel will can change a game in an instant. She is a superstar in the making, if not already.

Her strike against Norway was a cracker, and her set up for Salisbury's equaliser against Canada pure gold. If we are to go through, you feel she'll need to be given the ball at every opportunity.

As football drama goes, tonight looms as something special. Brazil's Marta is widely considered the best player in the world and there is no doubt she wreaks similar havoc to our own De Vanna.

So, will coach Sermanni resist his ongoing tactic of holding back De Vanna? Or will he throw her in from the start?

"I think the amount of shots we've put just wide of the post or hit the post or just missed really shows we've got probably got four of five players who can score goals," said skipper Cheryl Salisbury.

"That's something that Brazil are going to have to really watch. They can't out-mark somebody because we've got another player that comes in and score goals, whether it is a forward or a midfielder or one of us defenders."

Like the Socceroos in 2006, Aussie fans will be glued to their sets on Sunday night to see if the Matildas can make World Cup history. Either way, they've put women's football on the map.
